10 Reasons Why Sex is Super Healthy

   1. Sex relieves stress. Getting busy lowers blood pressure, according to researchers in Scotland. In a study, people who'd recently had intercourse responded better to stressful situations than those who abstained. In women, even a hug can lower blood pressure.
   2. Sex boosts immunity. Having sex once or twice a week has been linked with higher levels of an antibody called immunoglobin A or IgA. This can protect you from getting colds and other infections. In a study, college students who had sex once or twice a week had the highest levels of IgA, higher than people who abstained and also higher than bedroom bunnies who did it three or more times a week.
   3. Sex burns calories. Thirty minutes of sex burns 85 calories. Thinking of it this way, you could burn 3,570 calories in 42 sex sessions, and that's enough to lose one pound.
   4. Sex is good for your heart. English scientists found that having sex twice or more a week reduced the risk of a fatal heart attack by half in men.
   5. Sex boosts self-esteem. Researchers from the University of Texas found that boosting self-esteem is one of the reasons people have sex. Sex experts agree--sex with a loving, connected partner helps you feel better about yourself.
   6. Sex improves intimacy. Having sex and orgasms increases the levels of the hormone oxytocin, the so-called love hormone, which helps us build trust and bond. Higher oxytocin has been linked with feeling more generous.
   7. Sex reduces pain. As oxytocin surges, endorphins increase, and pain declines.
   8. Sex reduces risk of prostate cancer. Frequent ejaculations, especially in 20-something men, may reduce the risk of getting prostate cancer later in life. Men who had 21 ejaculations per month and five or more per week were less likely to get prostate cancer.
   9. Sex strengthens pelvic floor muscles. Do Kegels during sex to enjoy more pleasure and strengthen the area to minimize the risk of incontinence later. Basic Kegels: Tighten the muscles of your pelvic floor as if you're stopping the flow of urine. Count to three, release, and repeat 20 times at least.
  10. Sex helps you sleep. The oxytocin released during orgasm promotes sleep, according to research. Getting more sleep helps you maintain a healthy weight and blood pressure.
